Roman Games in Ptuj: Heritage Meets Minecraft
26 August 2025During July–August 2025, an initiative combining ecology, cultural heritage, and digital creativity was implemented within the Viminacium Archaeological Park as part of the Green Heritage project. With the support of Zelena oaza Kučevo, compost bins were installed to
transform biological waste into fertile soil for the future Roman Garden, promoting principles of circular resource use and environmental sustainability.
Building on this initiative, a series of interactive workshops introduced participants to ecological practices and Roman heritage through a digital environment inspired by Minecraft. Students aged 10 to 18, together with archaeology students from China, explored sustainability and cultural heritage by designing characters, reconstructing Roman architecture, and developing shared narratives within the game.
Through creative play and collaboration, participants engaged with themes such as recycling, inclusion, and environmental protection, demonstrating the educational potential of digital tools in heritage interpretation. The activity highlighted how innovative digital approaches can effectively connect younger audiences with cultural heritage while fostering ecological awareness.
